I find it slightly more contentious that he was ever 'unplayable'.

The night before the Arsenal cup tie that season I was in Browns Nightclub on Parker Street, obviously in the VIP Room.

It's around midnight and I spot this black fella and I think "where do I know him from?" it was Aboooooooooo

Had a quick chat to him, he spoke very little English except West Ham and a big smile, he left the club about 1am.

I loved him, unplayable on his day.

When I was mascot against Arsenal in the FA Cup (1998) Quarter Final at Highbury. Such a happy guy, signed loads of stuff and took loads of photos with my family (as did others, but just remember him with a massive smile on his face)!

Published. Many thanks to all.

Great memories of the little man, even though he made me cry my eyes out when he missed that pen.

I am sure it was Ruddock that said it was ok for him to swear on the show.

Didn't he say fuck off

Been watching his highlights and the flicks and goals very good.

Cant remember him being that good.

Looked better than a lot of players we have had after him up front

Own up, who thought a 'comedy' Abou twitter account would be remotely amusing?

We beat leicester 4-3 at home in the Nast day of the season, with abou scoring 2 (as mentioned below) trading goals with cottee. Abou got massive cheers, cottee joke boos. Great atmosphere

Two other memories - hearing that he thought he was getting booed and couldn't understand why, then being told 30000 people were screaming/chanting his name and being ecstatic

And his little face when his penalty hit the post against Arsenal. He went from overjoyed as it looked destined for the corner to destroyed as it bounced out. My heart broke for him that night

Might be an urban myth but sure I heard when he left that he left his club car in the car park of a fast food restaurant.
With the keys in? Maybe

There's a video on Youtube of West Ham playing Leicester in 1997-98, I think. Can't be bothered to link it. Abou scored with a fantastic run and shot. Think he may have got 2.

Remember him scoring at home against Leeds the same season when I think he latched on to a loose backpass and chipped Nigel Martyn. Didn't he also get a hattrick v Barnsley in a 6-0?

On the other hand, he missed a sitter at home v Man Utd which would have won the match for us.

Also believe Bradford were due to pay us £800,000 for him but pulled out at the last minute.

They must have found out he was a bit of a nutter.

Did he go on a free in the end?

Didn't Redknapp say he ate a missionary or something?!

I believe Redknapp said Abou had "ate a dodgy missionary" which caused him to be ill.

Could easily have been a Big Ron moment but the press seemed to miss it.
